20140208-152502.jpgOn Saturday, we were one of the earliest sites to report that Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen was considering taking down the addicting and popular, Flappy Bird, out of the app stores.

Nguyen seems to be one of those guys that’s just not ok with fame. He fancies himself an indie game developer and never meant for Flappybird to catch on the way that it did. While we still think there’s more to the story that’s not been uncovered yet, we will let it go at Nguyen’s reasoning for now.

Regardless of how terrified he is of having a huge hit game, Flappybird was reportedly making $50,000 a day in ad sales at it’s prime, which has only been for the past few weeks.

On Saturday I speculated that Nguyen may have hoped for a buyer to come in and acquire Flappy Bird once he said he was letting it go. That may have happened behind the scenes but nothing has come out related to anything like that. Perhaps Nguyen just wants to be a hermit. To each his own though.

There are several horizontal scrolling games similar to Flappy Bird, but this game hit the jackpot in popularity when it was featured in a story on buzz feed. Even more downloads have been generated since Nguyen started tweeting that he didn’t want the fame around the game,. Funny how those things work out huh.

Nevertheless if you haven’t downloaded it yet, then you can’t. It’s not available in the iTunes app store and it seems to have also disappeared from the Google Play store as well. There are clones out there though so if you just want a horribly addicting game where you try not to let your bird fly into Mario-esque green pipes than you may still be able to find something just like it.

In fact if you’re jonesing right now try Fly Birdie a Flappy Bird Flyer here.
