We’re on the ground at the 2014 International CES bringing you Tech Faster.

Monday was press day and we saw a whole lot of new technology. One of the coolest was during LG’s press event. LG is in a heated war with their fellow Korean rival Samsung across multiple lines of consumer electronics. On Monday LG one-upped Samsung with a new washing machine

A washing machine you say? How innovative could that be?

Well if you were a Eureka fan and remember Sheriff Jack Carter’s AI system S.A.R.A that’s the idea behind this washing machine that you can talk to.

LG purchased the WebOS operating system from HP two years ago, now they’re bringing it back to power and function as the brains for multiple connected appliances, TVS and other devices.

bounceit-CESLG’s washing machine uses a new application called LG Home Chat, that allows owners to use messaging to talk with their appliances. For example you could ask the washing machine “how much longer” the machine would of course give you the answer. Buzzers are so 1987.

The new appliances can also message their owners and give them status updates on the progress of whatever function the appliance is currently performing.

The idea is of course to further bolster the connected home. In the not so distant future your home management system will not only manage your security system, HVAC and other in home services like lighting, but also manage the appliances.

While convenience is obviously a key factor in LG’s new, LG Home Chat, an LG spokesperson told a group of press on Monday that energy efficiency is also a key factor in adding appliances to the connected home.

For instance when tied in with an irrigation system your system could let you know not to run the washing machine and the irrigation system at the same time.

You can expect the first of these appliances by late spring.
