Without a doubt, the Macbook is one of the best laptops for students. I am not going to say the best, out of fear of starting a comment war, but one of the top three or four laptops. That said, the price tag is pretty steep for your average student. However, we just came across a unique new startup that looks to make Macbooks affordable to any student. Technichi is a new service that offers Macbooks as a subscription service. So, instead of paying upwards of $1700, students can pay around $60/month for a Macbook. We had a chance to ask the team a few questions about their new service:

Technichi

What is Technichi?

Technichi is economizing the way college students and working professionals access Macbooks. We offer consumers a new MacBook Pro Retina, bundled with a comprehensive warranty and full technical phone support. Currently offered in 1 year subscriptions for a low rate starting at $60/mo.

What problem are you taking on?

The world needs our sevice (not app) because students and working professonals are being forced to finance the high up-front cost of a new Macbook, accept a lesser alternative (Windows laptop/Chrome book), or forgoe upgrading all together and continue the use of aging devices. Technichi makes using a Macboko economical for these groups while also providing excellent technical support and a comprehensive warranty that covers anything and everything that might go wrong. We even offer loaners while customer’s Macbook are being repaired, at no additional cost. It’s worry free, hassle free, economical Macbook access for the massess.

How is Technichi different from what is currently available?

Basically, we are using the college textbook rental model for Macbooks. A low monthly rate for a top notch machine with services that you want and need for stress free use.

Tell us your founding story. Was there an “ah ha” moment?

Technich was started by 3 friends with combined experience in both the consumer electronics and college textbooks industries. We saw a magnificent shift in how college students used textbooks in the transition from purchasing to rental. This prompted us to ask ‘why’ this trend was occurring. We determined college students can’t always afford the high cost of textbooks, and even those that can simply prefer not to part with all their hard earned cash in order to access them. Its here we saw an opportunity, a hole that needed to be filled. Thus Technichi was born. Our mission is to put a Macbook in the hands of every college student who wants one, but can’t afford the high up-front cost to buy direct from Apple, for a reasonable monthly fee less than a cell phone bill.

Tell us about your founding team and their backgrounds.

The founders are Justin Hayes (CEO), Leonard Leblanc (CTO), and Greg Harrington (COO). Together the have more than 25 years of retail and logistics background supporting some of the biggest names in the industry, including RadioShack, Groupon, Target, and Amazon.
